MIAMI -- Another round, another nailbiter for top-ranked Tennessee.

The Volunteers knocked off No. 9 seed Wisconsin, 20-17, in dramatic fashion at the Orange Bowl. Tennessee QB Tee Martin connected with Cedrick Wilson for a 35-yard touchdown with 28 seconds left to take the win.

Tennessee advances to play fourth-seeded Ohio State at the Rose Bowl in next weekend's Virtual Championship Series semifinals. The Buckeyes crushed Virginia, 45-21.

This win was anything but easy for the Vols, even though Tennessee dominated the game statistically. The Vols nearly doubled Wisconsin in yardage (451-241) and first downs (21-11), but turnovers kept the Badgers ahead for most of the game. In fact, it took a huge stop by star linebacker Al Wilson in the final two minutes to even give the Vols a chance to win.

With the Vols down 17-13, Wilson tackled Wisconsin's bruising rusher Ron Dayne just inches short of what would have been a game-clinching first down with 51 seconds left. Had Dayne gotten the first down, the Badgers could have merely run out the clock. Instead, they were forced to punt after Tennessee called its final timeout.

After a fair catch, the Vols took the ball on their own 18-yard line. Martin connected with WR Peerless Price for a 24-yard gain along the sideline on the first play of the drive. Then, on a busted play, Martin (104 rushing yds., 146 passing yds.) scrambled for 23 yards, placing the ball at the 35.

The next two plays -- incompletions to Price and Wilson -- netted nothing, leaving the Vols with a crucial 3rd-and-10 play. Martin then connected with Wilson, who made a leaping grab in the corner of the end zone to give Tennessee its first lead.

Wisconsin had one final chance with 28 seconds left. However, Mike Samuel, who had been nearly perfect throughout the game (11-of-14, 100 yds passing; 1 TD rushing) couldn't move the Badgers into field goal range and his Hail Mary attempt on the game's final play fell well short of the end zone.
