NEW ORLEANS -- Florida State will once again play for the national title. K-State will once again be left dreaming of what could have been.

Peter Warrick scored a 53-yard touchdown on a screen pass with 53 seconds left to give the Seminoles a stunning 36-29 win in the Sugar Bowl. Initially, it appeared the play would go nowhere, forcing the 'Noles to punt and giving K-State a chance to win the game. However, FSU's star receiver shook off K-State defensive back Lamar Chapman and outsprinted the rest of the defense into the end zone.

Florida State advances to face No. 4 Ohio State for the national title in the Virtual Championship Series finals -- the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 4. The Buckeyes edged out No. 1 Tennessee in the Rose Bowl earlier in the day.

Warrick's score was the Seminoles' second in the final 2:20 of the game. A 41-yard field goal by Lou Groza Award winner Sebastian Janikowski tied the game at 26 with 2:20 left. Then, Warrick's catch ended a lightning-quick 74-yard drive and gave the Seminoles the lead again.

K-State had the ball one last time in the final minute. However, four incomplete passes, including two drops by normally reliable Aaron Lockett, sealed the Wildcats' fate.

In the early going, it appeared that the Seminoles may not even have to break a sweat to whip the Wildcats. A 28-yard field goal by Janikowski gave Florida State a 20-0 lead with 10:41 left in the second quarter.

But then Michael Bishop and K-State came to life. A TD run and a scoring pass by the Wildcats' Heisman finalist closed the FSU lead to 20-14 with 4:08 left.

Meanwhile, the only offense FSU generated came from its special teams. A blocked kick recovered in the end zone switched momentum back toward the Seminoles. However, FSU's two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving FSU with a 26-14 halftime lead.

But the momentum switch was only temporary. K-State scored 19 straight points -- including a safety and ending with a 25-yard field goal by Martin Gramatica -- to take a 29-26 lead.
