BALL ST 75, LSU 65

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- Patrick Jackson wasn't Ball State's top scorer, but his points came when it mattered most.

Jackson scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half to lead the Cardinals to a 75-65 victory over Louisiana State in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament.

Jackson's biggest shot was a 3-pointer that put Ball State (23-11) ahead for good, 65-63, with 4:17 remaining.

Jackson's 3-pointer was one of 14 for the Cardinals, who shot 54 percent (14-of-26) from beyond the arc.

The Cardinals closed with an 8-2 run as Jackson nailed another 3-pointer in the final minute.

Jackson made 8-of-11 shots while Chris Williams scored 25 points to lead Ball State, which will face the South Carolina in the quarterfinals.

The duo combined to make 11-of-17 3-pointers, with Jackson's final one coming in front of the Louisiana State bench to make it 71-65 with 30 seconds left.

The Gamecocks defeated UNLV, 75-65, on Tuesday night.

The 5-10 Jackson is no stranger to making plays down the stretch. In Ball State's season-opening win against Kansas in the first round of the Maui Invitational, Jackson made the game-winning layup with eighth-tenths of a second remaining.

Torris Bright led the Tigers (19-15) with a career-high 25 points, but he missed a potential tying 3-pointer with a minute left.

Bright also gave LSU its biggest lead at 59-54 with under eight minutes left following a pair of 3-pointers.

But Williams converted a three-point play and Jackson hit a short jumper to tie the game at 59-59 with 7:27 to go.
