Two Fencers Earn All-America Honors

The Wayne State University women's fencing team finished in 10th place with 39 victories at the 2008 NCAA Championship being held at The Ohio State University. Freshman Karolina Budna earned First Team All-America honors by placing fourth in the sabre. In the women's epee, senior Justyna Konczalska earned Second Team All-America accolades by placing seventh. (more)

Women's Fencing 10th After Opening Day At NCAAs

The Wayne State University women's fencing team is in 10th place after the first day of the 2008 NCAA Championship being hosted by The Ohio State University. The Warriors won 21 bouts (14 in sabre and seven in epee). OSU leads with 62 and is followed by Notre Dame (60), Columbia (49), St. John's (45), Penn State (43), Harvard (37), Temple (26), Northwestern (24) and Penn (23). (more)

Women's Fencing Performs Well At NCAA Midwest Regional.

Six members of the Wayne State University women's fencing squad competed on Sunday at the NCAA Midwest Regional hosted by the University of Detroit. In the women's sabre, Karolina Budna placed fourth to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. Ann Bartoszewicz was eighth while Anna Kotov placed 15th. Bartoszewicz must await word on an at-large bid. In women's foil, Samantha Strassburg placed 12th. Justyna Konczalska finished fifth in the women's epee to secure her spot at the NCAA Championship. Emanuel Bercea was 18th. Konczalska will be making her third consecutive NCAA Championship appearance after placing fourth in 2006 and ninth in 2007. (more)
