Benson Among 10 Bulldogs to Earn Academic All-Ivy Status

Five female and five male Yale student-athletes in fall sports have been named Academic All-Ivy. They are: Josh Block, Todd Feiereisen, Matt Handlon, Ed McCarthy, Jake Miller, Eleni Benson, Lindsay Donaldson, Renee Lopes, Katherine McKinstry and Heather Orrico.

Block, a junior, was a key member of Yale's Ivy League champion men's soccer team. A History of Science/History of Medicine major, he was also CoSIDA second-team Academic All-District.

Feiereisen, a senior economics major, was second-team All-Ivy in football. He finished with 55 catches for 762 yards and seven TDs after spending his first three years as a quarterback.

Handlon, a senior economics major, earned honorable mention All-Ivy honors. He posted 74 tackles and two interceptions. He was a semi-finalist for the Draddy Trophy, recognizing academic success, football performance and exemplary community leadership.

McCarthy, a junior history major, was named first team All-Ivy on the offensive line. He was the Ivy League Rookie of the Year as a freshman.

Miller, a junior economics major, was first-team All-Ivy in men's soccer. He headed a Yale defense that allowed only 16 goals in 18 games.

Benson, a senior molecular biophysics and biochemistry major, captained the Yale women's soccer team to an Ivy League title and a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA College Cup. She was also CoSIDA first-team Academic All-American.

Donaldson, a sophomore cross country star, finished second at Heps. She was also 41st at the NCAA Championships.

Lopes, a senior economics major, was first-team All-Ivy for the Yale volleyball team. She posted .389 hitting percentage, second in the league.

McKinstry, a junior history major, won the ECAC 5k title at Van Cortlandt Park.

Orrico, a junior political science major, was first-team All-Ivy & All-Region for the Yale field hockey team.
