Oct. 11, 2004

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Yale goalkeeper Sarah Walker (Alameda, Calif.) has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week. Walker, who has started all 11 games and has a 0.82 goals against average, made six saves, including two big ones in the final 20 minutes, as Yale got its first league win of the season with a 1-0 shutout of Dartmouth on Sunday.

With 18:21 left Big Green midfielder Megan Wijas blasted a shot to the left corner, but Walker made a diving save. Less than three minutes later, striker Christina Ferraris had an opportunity from in close, but Walker stonewalled her as well. It was Walker's fourth shutout of the season and Yale's first victory over the Big Green since 1995. Walker also played the first 26 minutes against Quinnipiac on Tuesday night, holding the Bobcats scoreless and making two saves.

The Bulldogs, who are 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the Ivy League, play at Cornell on Saturday at noon.
