The Yale women's lacrosse team scored two goals in the last minute of play, however its rally came up one goal short in a 10-9 loss against No. 17 JMU on Saturday at Johnson Field.
Yale drops to 1-1 this season with the loss, while JMU improves to 2-0.
Trailing 10-7 with 44 seconds left, Yale's Katherine Peetz took a shot that beat JMU goalie Livvy King to make the score 10-8. The Bulldogs won the draw control and got the ball to Jenn Warden, who fired a shot past King with 27 seconds left to get Yale to within one (10-9).
JMU won the ensuing draw control and ran out the clock to secure the victory.
James Madison got off to a quick start in the contest by scoring four straight goals in the opening 10:12 of play.
Warden got the Bulldogs on the board 11:32 into the game to make the score 4-1. Peetz added a goal to make it 4-2 with 17:52 to go in the first half.
After JMU's Brooke McKenzie tallied her third goal of the game, Yale's Lauren Taylor scored to make it 5-3 with 13:40 to go in the half. James Madison's Kim Griffin answered to make it 6-3.
Yale then responded with three straight goals to tie the game at six. Taylor, Lara Melniker and Peetz all scored during the run. JMU went on a 4-0 scoring run of its own to make the score 10-6.
Peetz and Warden each scored three goals for the Bulldogs. Melniker added a goal and an assist. JMU's Brooke McKenzie scored four goals.
Yale's Ellen Cameron stopped 12 shots in net, while King made seven saves.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday, March 8, when they host New Hampshire at 3 p.m. at Johnson Field.
