LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Lock Haven scored two goals in a span of 3:20 early in the second half to erase a 1-0 Yale lead, beating the Bulldogs 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Hubert Jack Stadium. The Bulldogs' goal came from sophomore forward Ashley McCauley, her 14th of the year, assisted by sophomore midfielder Katie Cantore. Sophomore goalkeeper Charlotte Goins made eight saves for Yale.
The Bulldogs grabbed an early lead on a penalty corner. Senior back Beth Raveche's shot was blocked but Cantore kept the ball alive and sent it toward the goal, where McCauley was able to push it past goalkeeper Ali Harris. With 14 goals, McCauley has now surpassed Lindsay Hobbs' 1995 total (13) to move into fifth on Yale's single-season record list.
Yale (7-8) kept its lead into halftime, but near the end of the first half Raveche was hit in the hand by a ball. While she was being treated as the second half resumed, Lock Haven got two quick goals from Suzann Hobart to take the lead. Alana Lewis' goal with less than 15 minutes to play put the game out of reach.
"In the first half, we were playing good hockey both on attack and on defense," said head coach Pam Stuper. "In the second half, Lock Haven just took that away from us."
Harris and Erin Terreson, who came on in the second half, made three saves each for Lock Haven (13-5).
Yale plays its second-to-last game of the season Friday at Columbia (7:00 p.m.).
