PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Loukas Tasigianis scored his second goal of the game 45 seconds into the second overtime to lift Penn to a 2-1 victory over Yale at Rhodes Field. Andy Shorten scored for the Bulldogs midway through the first half. The loss snapped Yale's six-game unbeaten streak. Five of the Bulldogs' last six games have gone to overtime.
The Quakers (5-6-2, 2-1 Ivy) jumped on top just 25 seconds into the game when Tasigianis scored off an assist from Andrew Ferry.
The Bulldogs tied it in the 26th minute. Less than two minutes after checking into the game, Shorten scored following a scrum in front of the goal. It was his first career goal. Jordan Raybould was credited with the assist.
Yale nearly scored again a few minutes later when Aden Farina-Henry got behind the defense, but his shot went wide. Late in the first half, Brad Rose fired a shot that got past Penn goalkeeper Drew Healy and appeared to be going in, but a Penn defender knocked it away at the last minute.
The Bulldogs's best chance of the second half came early when Kevin Pope hit the crossbar with a shot.
Tasigianis's game-winning goal came from the left side and was set up by Mike Klein and Omid Shokoufandeh.
Penn outshot Yale 15-8 in the game. Erik Geiger made three saves in goal for the Bulldogs. Healy stopped one shot for Penn.
"After giving up the early goal, we played very well for the rest of the first half," said Yale head coach Brian Tompkins. "In the second half, Penn put a lot of pressure on us, but we defended well. Overall I thought it was a fantastic effort from our guys."
The Bulldogs are back in action when they host No. 1-ranked UConn on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Reese Stadium.
