The Bulldog sailors earned another strong finish at a major intersectional last weekend, coming in third at the Captain Hurst Bowl hosted by Dartmouth. Yale finished with 56 points overall, just three back from second-place URI.
The regatta, which was scheduled to be a two-day event, was sailed solely on Sunday after no wind on Saturday forced racing to be suspended. Sunday brought similarly weak breeze, leading to a long postponement until a light westerly wind filled in during the afternoon.
Only four races were able to be sailed, in comparison to the higher numbers of around 12-16 generally sailed during a 2-day intersectional.
In the A division, skipper Stu McNay and crew Meredith Killion began the competition with 6th and 8th place finishes before having a mid-fleet 12th place standing in the third race. In the fourth and final race, the pair came in first to total 27 points and finish third behind Harvard and Dartmouth.
Rookie Zach Brown steered the B fleet boat with senior Jenn Hoyle as his crew. The two began strong, with a 2nd place finish in the first race, before recording placings of 10th, 6th, and 11th in the final three. With 29 points, Brown and Hoyle came in fifth in the B fleet.
The teams' combined scores placed them behind Harvard and URI in the regatta.
The Bulldogs will return to Dartmouth this weekend for the women's version of the event, the Mrs. Hurst Trophy. Meanwhile, the coed team will compete in the Htch Brown Trophy, hosted by Boston University.
