No. 3 Bulldogs Second at George Morris Trophy Intersectional, Third at Thompson Trophy

4th George Morris Trophy Intersectional | 20th Thompson Trophy | Southern Series V | 67th Priddy Trophy

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale sailors were in action around New England this weekend, with the team's best finish coming at the 4th George Morris Trophy Intersectional where it claimed second place. At the 20th Thompson Trophy, the No. 3 Bulldogs wound up third, while at the Southern Series V Yale took fourth. Finally, two Eli freshmen, Sarah Lihan and Michael Hession, finished 10th at the 67th Priddy Trophy.

The Bulldogs claimed second at the 4th George Morris Trophy with 110 points. Boston University (102 pts.) and USF (114 pts.) placed first and third respectively. 10 races were sailed in two divisions. Yale's boat in the A division, sailed by senior Matthew Barry and junior Hannah Aultman, snagged first place with 45 points. The twosome won three of its final five races. In the B division, freshman John Kempton and sophomore Emmet Smith represented the Bulldogs. This boat took fourth with 65 points, on one race win and five other top five finishes.

At the 20th Thompson Trophy, Yale wound up third with 236 points. Dartmouth (218 pts.) and Boston College (236 pts.) nailed down first and second place respectively. 16 races were sailed in two divisions. Junior Zachary Brown and sophomore Grace Becton placed 11th in the A division. Freshman Thomas Barrows and junior Abigail Coplin won the B division with 99 points. The duo only won one race but finished in the top five on seven other occasions.

Yale's boats in the A and B division both finished third, as the Bulldogs sailed to a fourth place overall finish at the Southern Series V. The team tallied 95 total points. 12 races were sailed in both divisions. The University of Vermont (52 pts.) won. Junior Rufus Peabody and sophomore Caleb Dorfman sailed in the A division, accumulating 44 points. Sophomore Katherine Hagemann skippered the Bulldog boat in the B division, while junior Lynn McGregor handled the crewing duties.

Finally, Lihan and Hession finished with 111 points at the 67th Priddy Trophy. In nine races, the pair had three top five finishes. The Roger Williams boat won.

The Bulldogs will return to action next weekend, as they travel to Cambridge, Mass. for the 58th NE Team Racing Fowle Trophy and to Newport, R.I. for the Southern Series VI.
