PHILADELPHIA – Xavier was eliminated from the Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championships with after a 1-3 (20-30, 22-30, 30-28, 26-30) loss to Temple at McGonigle Hall on Friday.

The Musketeers fall to 14-15 overall while Temple, the 2003 A-10 Regular Season Champions, improved to 20-7.

The meeting marked the fifth time in the last six seasons that the two teams have met in the Atlantic 10 Championships.

Sophomore Kate Duchek was the only Musketeer to reach double figures in kills with 15.

Xavier was held to a .145 hitting percentage despite 34 assists from A-10 All-Rookie Team member Marisa Main.

Main also had 12 digs and five blocks to lead the XU defense. Junior Molly Martin added 10 digs for the Musketeers.

Three Owls reached double-figures in kills led by All-Conference members Xu Yun with 22 and Yamit Haba with 14. Liu Shu also had 20 for the Owls.

In game one, Temple jumped out to a 25-13 advantage before Xavier rattled off six of the next seven points to pull within seven at 26-19. However, a pair of kills by Xu Yun regained momentum for the Owls who would win 30-20.

The teams traded points in the beginning of game two until the Owls went on a 9-0 run to stretch a 7-6 lead to a 16-6 advantage. The Musketeers attempted a comeback at 20-9 with a 9-3 run to pull within 23-18, but Temple would regain momentum and close out game two with five of the last six points to win 30-22.

In game three, Xavier took the momentum from the start and used a 6-0 run to build a 13-6 advantage. Temple would battle back to knot the score at 17-all. The teams would trade points throughout the rest of the game until a kill by Marisa Main would give the Musketeers its first game point. XU would capitalize on a TU hitting error to take game three, 30-28.

Xavier carried the momentum over into game four and took an early 6-2 lead. However, Temple would respond with an 11-2 run to build a 13-8 lead of its own. The Owls controlled play for the rest of the game and eventually won 30-26 with a kill by Liu Shu.

Xavier will return to McGonigle Hall on Nov. 29th to take on George Mason and Manhattan.
