Skrajewski and Kaminsky Earn A-10 Honors

Oct. 30, 2006

CINCINNATI - For the first time this season, Xavier has the Atlantic 10 Player and Rookie of the Week for volleyball. After leading XU to a 2-0 A-10 mark this past week, junior Danielle Skrajewski was named the Player of the Week, while freshman Lauren Kaminsky earned the Rookie of the Week honor. It is the second honor for each player in the respective categories.

Skrajewski picks up her second Player of the Week honor this season after notching her 49th career double double against the Flyers. The senior finished with 22 kills and 20 digs in XU's 3-2 victory over UD. She averaged 4.75 kills, 3.00 digs and 4.94 points per game on the week. The Downingtown, Pa. native followed up the UD match with another 16 kills against Rhode Island and her .560 hitting percentage (16 kills, 2 errors, 25 attempts) against the Rams was her second best mark of the season. She currently leads the Musketeers with 4.08 kills per game, is third on the team with 2.66 digs per game and has 13 double doubles on the season.

Kaminsky, who earns her second A-10 Rookie of the Week honor, continued to shine as XU's libero as the freshman was one dig shy of her career high against Dayton, finishing with 22 digs. She followed up with another 10 digs against Rhode Island and finished the week averaging 4.00 digs per game. She has had 10 or more digs in the last eight matches, while five of those eight matches she has notched 15 or more digs. The Muncie, Ind. native currently leads the Musketeers with 3.18 digs per game and 288 digs on the season.

Xavier has the weekend off before returning to the court against Saint Louis and Duquesne in two weeks. The Musketeers will host the Billikens on Friday, November 10 at 7:00 pm and then battle the Dukes on Saturday afternoon, November 11, at 3:00 pm. This is the final A-10 weekend of the season and also the final home matches for the Musketeers. The weekend is crucial for the Musketeers as the battle for second place in the A-10 West will take place against SLU with the winner earning second place and potentially slipping into first with help. Three seniors will be honored before the Duquesne match for senior night as Astyn Bjorklund, Ashley Norris and Danielle Skrajewski will don the Blue and White for the final time at Cintas Center.
