Xavier Swept By A-10 Rival Dayton, 3-0
DAYTON, OH - The Xavier volleyball team fell to 2-5 in Atlantic 10 play with an 0-3 (13-30, 22-30, 29-31) loss at Dayton on Wednesday in front of 678 fans at the Frericks Center.
The Musketeers are now 8-13 overall and 2-5 in the A-10, which is good for sixth place. Dayton remained unbeaten in the conference and improved to 7-0 in the A-10 and 18-7 overall. Sophomore Kate Duchek was the only Musketeer to reach double figures in kills with 10 as XU was held to a .078 team hitting percentage in the match. Freshman Marisa Main dished out 31 assists for Xavier to go along with eight blocks and two service aces, but could not lead the Musketeers past two Flyers with double-doubles. UD was led by Erin Treadway with 14 kills and 10 digs while Chrisy Utnage added 10 kills and 11 digs of her own. The Flyers posted a .267 team hitting percentage on the strength of 29 assists by Nicole Schott and 12 by Kelly Scott. Xavier did hold a slim 56-54 advantage in digs behind a team-high 16 from sophomore libero Jordan Brightwell, but was outblocked 19.5 to 3.0 in the match as UD's Faye Barhorst tallied a match-high nine blocks. Xavier will return to action on Thursday, October 30 at La Salle. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
