Xavier Volleyball Earns 3-0 Win Over Fordham

CINCINNATI - Behind 16 kills from senior Katey Wygant, the Xavier volleyball team swept Fordham, 3-0 (30-25, 30-28, 30-16) on Saturday afternoon in the Cintas Center.

With the win Xavier (13-6, 4-1 A-10) concluded its six-match homestand assured of at least a tie for second place in the conference. Fordham fell to 7-13 overall and 1-4 in the Atlantic 10.

Wygant (Papillion, Neb./Papillion LaVista H.S.) recorded her 16 kills on just 25 swings with three errors for a .520 hitting percentage on the day. She now has 998 career kills and is closing in on becoming the 11th player in Xavier history to record 1,000 kills.

Freshman Meggie Hoffman (New Prague, Minn./New Prague H.S.) added 10 kills and 11 digs of her own to record her 10th double-double of the season. The duo of Hoffman and Wygant each recorded four block assists to lead the Musketeers defensively.

Sophomore Molly Martin (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins H.S.) dished out 33 assists while recording 10 digs for Xavier and freshman libero Jordan Brightwell (Louisville, Ky./Assumption H.S.) had 10 digs of her own as the Musketeers led in nearly every statistical category. Xavier led in kills 49-43, digs 50-36 blocks 6.0-1.0 and service aces 6-3.

Xavier will begin a nine-match road swing with a 7 p.m. match at Morehead State on Tuesday.
