Musketeers Lose at George Washington In Five Games

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Xavier jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but couldn't hold on as homestanding George Washington came back to win, 3-2 (26-30, 26-30, 30-17, 30-28, 15-12) in Alantic 10 volleyball action on Saturday.

The loss dropped Xavier to 7-11 overall and 1-3 in the A-10. GW improved to 15-3 overall and 4-1 in Atlantic 10 play.

Sophomore Kate Duchek led the attack for the Musketeers with a career-highs of 20 kills and six blocks.

Senior Kimberly Cockerel had 12 kills while hitting .333 and a season-best seven block assists for the Musketeers who out blocked the Colonials 11.5 to 11.0.

Freshman Erica Kaczorowski had her second straight double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs for Xavier, which hit .221 in the match on the strength of 52 assists from classmate Marisa Main.

Five Musketeers reached double digits in digs for a Xavier defense that totaled 79 digs on the evening. Sophomore Jordan Brightwell had a match-high 19 digs followed by 14 from Main, Kaczorowski's 12, 11 by junior Molly Martin and 10 from freshman Danielle Skrajewski.

GW escaped with the comeback win behind a 25 kill, 13 digs effort from Ruth Lazzari. Current A-10 Player of the Week Sarah Hokom also had a double-double with 16 kills and 16 digs as did Juliene McLaughlin with 13 kills and 12 digs.

Xavier will continue its conference road trip next Friday with 7 p.m. match at Fordham. XU will then take on Rhode Island on Saturday at 4 p.m.
