Bauer and Clary named to Atlantic 10 All-Conference team
PHILADELPHIA – Stephanie Bauer and Lauren Clary have been named to the Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis All-Conference team, voted on among Conference’s head coaches following the Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis Championship.
Bauer, a junior from Columbus, Ohio, competed at the number two singles spot this season for the Musketeers, compiling an overall record of 21-8. Her career record is 65-32 in singles play, in three seasons. This is her second All-Conference selection, also receiving the honor as a freshman. Clary, a junior from Terre Haute, Indiana, is a three time selection to the All-Conference team, while being named Performer of the Year as a freshman. Playing in the number one singles spot, Clary had an overall record of 29-5. Her career singles record now stands at 84-20, as she inches closer to Kate Weightman’s career school record of 85 singles victories (2000-04). In doubles play this season, Bauer and Clary had a record of 23-7. The classmates played out of the number one spot, and improved their career doubles record to 71-19 together. Both Bauer and Clary were named Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis Performer of the Week twice throughout the 2004 season. Bauer won the honors on Feb. 2 and Feb. 16, while Clary received the honors on Feb. 23 and March 15. Bauer and Clary helped lead the Xavier team to a 21-4 record, the most wins in school history, and a second place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship. Coach Jim Brockhoff, in his 31st season as the women’s tennis coach at Xavier, will look to Bauer and Clary to lead his Musketeer team to their first Atlantic 10 Championship in 2005.
