Xavier Has Three Athletes Named to A-10 Weekly Honor Roll

CINCINNATI --- Three Xavier athletes were selected for weekly awards from the Atlantic 10 Conference on Monday. Tracy Kennedy (Lakeside Park, Ky./Holy Cross) of the Xavier women’s soccer team was named co-Player of the Week. Men’s golfer Neal Grusczynski (West Allis, Wis./Central) and volleyball player Molly Martin (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Kennedy, a sophomore, got Xavier into the postseason with an overtime goal Sunday in XU’s match at Massachusetts. Xavier and UMass were tied at 1-all in the second overtime period when Kennedy scored with just 3:06 remaining in the match. A loss or tie to UMass would have ended Xavier’s season. Instead, the Musketeers are the fourth seed in this coming weekend’s Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament. It was Kennedy’s first goal of the year.

Grusczynski tied for eighth overall in Austin Peay’s Precept Intercollegiate. He shot rounds of 78 and 74 to tally an 8-over 152 for the tournament. His efforts helped Xavier to a third place finish. In addition, Xavier won the combined title for the finish of the men’s and women’s teams.

Martin, led Xavier to two wins and a berth in the Atlantic 10 Championships for the fourth straight year. She had 64 assists against both Duquesne and Temple while raising her A-10 leading average to 13.87 assists per game, which is fourth best in NCAA Division I. She also had 36 digs, four blocks and two service aces en route to her third straight Rookie of the Week honor and fifth this season.
