Two Goals By Amber Silvis Lead Xavier To A 4-1 Win
CINCINNATI, OH --- The Xavier University Musketeers defeated the visiting St. Bonaventure Bonnies 4-1 in women’s soccer on Sunday afternoon in Atlantic 10 Conference action at the Xavier University Soccer Complex. Xavier, which got a pair of goals from sophomore Amber Silvis (Hamersville, OH/Western Brown), raised its A-10 record to 2-1 and 3-8 overall with the win. SBU fell to 0-3 in the league and 7-5 overall.
Xavier struck first in the match as Silvis capitalized on a penalty kick just 7:50 into the match. St. Bonaventure answered with a goal from junior Heather MacDougall at the 16:54 mark to tie the score at 1-1. It was all Xavier after that. Silvis scored again at the 26:56 mark to put Xavier up for good at 2-1. The Musketeers stretched the lead to 3-1 by the time halftime arrived. Sophomore Ashley Valdiserri (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) scored on a header at the 35:17 mark off a flip throw in from senior Nicole Giesting (Cincinnati/McAuley), who earned an assist on the play. The Musketeers scored the only goal of the second half as senior Lauren Giesting (Cincinnati/McAuley) scored at 79:33 off an assist from freshman Anne Finnerty (Mansfield, OH/St. Peter’s).
Xavier, which defeated Duquesne 1-0 on Friday night, hits the road next weekend for a pair of A-10 matches in Philadelphia, visiting Temple on Friday and Saint Joseph’s on Sunday.
