Women's Soccer Drops A Tough One At Pittsburgh

Game statistics

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- -

The Xavier Musketeer women's soccer team suffered a tough 2-1 setback at Pittsburgh on Friday night. Xavier jumped out to 1-0 lead late in the first half but was unable to find the net again the rest of the match.

Xavier freshman Carlyanne Wenzel got Xavier on the board first with a goal at 33:10 off an assist from sophomore Brittany Green. Wenzel leads Xavier in scoring this season with three goals.

Pitt wasted little time in answering the Xavier goal, scoring at 33:57 to deadlock the score at 1-1.

That score was 1-1 at halftime and remained that way until the 63rd minute. That's when luck gave Pitt a lift. A collision between Xavier sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Farrell and a Pitt player left the ball free in front of an open goal. A fortunate Katie Caslin was the beneficiary, scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal at 62:57.

XU fell to 1-5 with the loss while Pitt raised its record to 3-2.

The Musketeers take on West Virginia on Sunday in Morgantown.
