XAVIER WOMEN'S GOLF PLACES FOURTH AT RIO VERDE
RIO VERDE, Ariz. --- The Musketeer women's golf team placed fourth out of 11 teams at the East/West Rio Verde Invitational held at Quail Run Country Club in Rio Verde, Ariz.
Xavier, under the direction of second-year Head Coach Gina Yoder, had a combined score of 634 which was one shot shy of third place North Texas. Tournament host Western Michigan won the Championship with a score of 614 and had the top individual performer in Erica Bieniek with a combined score of 144 over 36 holes. XU's top individual performer was junior Jill Stein (Sussex, Wisc./Hartland Arrowhead H.S.) who tied for 11th place with a score of 159. Senior Beth Hamilton (Norman, Okla./Lakota East (Ohio) H.S.) and sophomore Emily Shoplik (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area H.S.) were two shots behind Stein in 14th place with a 161. Also competing for Xavier were sophomores Sarah Sparks and Abby Fowler. Sparks (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble H.S.) placed 24th overall with a 164 while Fowler (Medford, Ore./South Medford H.S.) was 34th with a score of 168. The Musketeers return to action on March 29-30 at the William & Mary Spring Invitational in Williamsburg, Va.
