Women’s Golf Ties for Seventh at East/West Rio Verde Invitational

Rio Verde, Ariz. – The Xavier University women’s golf team finished in a tie for seventh place at the East/West Rio Verde Invitational hosted by Eastern and Western Michigan at the par-71, 6,074-yard White Wing Golf Course. XU finished the tournament with a three-round total of 945 (+93), which tied the Musketeers with Arkansas-Little Rock. Michigan took home the team honors with a three-round total of 900, which was 19 strokes better than second place Iowa. Sarah Sparks turned in the top individual finish for Xavier with a total of 231 after rounds of 75, 74 and 82 to finish in a tie for 16th at 18-over par. Kara Manis and Diana Torry finished in a tie with five others for 35th place with a total of 239 (+26). Manis carded rounds of 84, 79, and 76 while Torry turned in rounds of 76, 76 and 87. Abby Fowler carded rounds of 83, 81 and 81 while Kathleen Hardy fired rounds of 83, 81 and 81 as each finished the tournament with a total of 245 (+32). Erin Gore rounded out the XU lineup as the freshman finished with a total of 252 (+39) after rounds of 86, 79, and 87. The Musketeers will return to the links on Friday, March 11, when XU hosts the second annual St. Croix Collegiate Classic at the Carambola Golf Club in St. Croix, Virgin Islands.
