Xavier Women Ready to Get NCAA Tourney Underway
The Xavier women's basketball team has had enough of all this pre-tournament hoopla. It's time to play.
Each of the four teams (Xavier, Louisville, Clemson, Chattanooga) held press conferences and open practices today at the Cintas Center for the first time. There will be no more practices and no more press conferences until after first round games are played. In Xavier's press conference today Head Coach Melanie Balcomb spoke of the keys to tomorrow's game. "They're really strong on the perimeter. The key to their team is the point guard. We have to slow her down. We also want to control the tempo," said Balcomb. Balcomb wants to avoid first-round exits like the ones her team endured the last two NCAA Tournaments. "We're very disappointed in the way we finished the last two seasons. We were devastated losing to Uconn and Stephen F. Austin the way we did. We don't want to end it like that this year," said Balcomb. Game action will begin tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. when fifth-seeded Clemson (20-9) takes on 12th-seeded Chattanooga (24-6) . The fourth-seeded Musketeers (28-2) will play 13th-seeded Louisville (19-9) approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of that game. The winners will meet on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Tickets for all three games are available at $15 for adults and $10 for students. They can be purchased in person at the Xavier ticket office at the Cintas Center or at Ticketmaster outlets. Ticketmaster is also selling tickets online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at 513-562-4949. Tickets for an individual session will go on sale on Friday morning and are $10 for adults and $6 for students.
