Women's Basketball Oulasts Bonnies

OLEAN, N.Y. --- Sophomore Tara Boothe had 25 points and 10 rebounds as the Xavier women’s basketball team outlasted St. Bonaventure 63-61. The Friday matinee at Reilly Center was played before a record crowd of 1,523 fans, mostly children from area schools.

Freshman Suntana Granderson added 22 points and seven rebounds in the game for Xavier. (9-5, 1-2).

Stefanie Collins led St. Bonaventure (4-9, 0-2) with 20 points.

The teams played through three ties and four lead changes in the first six minutes of the game before The Bonnies went up 13-11.

Fueled by six points from Boothe, Xavier used a 10-2 run to open up a 21-15 lead in the next five minutes of the contest.

The Musketeers maintained a lead of at least four over the final minutes of the half, and held a 32-26 lead at intermission.

St. Bonaventure opened the second half with a 6-2 run, and eventually tied the game at 40-all with just over 10 minutes remaining.

The teams exchanged the lead a couple times before Xavier went ahead 50-49 with 6:45 left to play.

XU built the lead to five, 56-51, with just over four minutes left, but six answered points put the Bonnies up 57-56 with 1:48 remaining.

On the next possession, Granderson hit a three to put Xavier back in the lead by two, 59-57, with 1:40 left.

Free throws in the final 30 seconds from Boothe, Miranda Green and Alexis Henderson sealed the win for the Musketeers.

Xavier will next travel to Pittsburgh to play at Duquesne on Sunday. The 2 p.m. game will be on the Atlantic 10 Television Network (Fox Sports Net in Cincinnati).
