Belmont Defeat Men’s Tennis

CINCINNATI – The Xavier University men’s tennis team dropped to 9-7 on the year as they were defeated, 5-2, by Belmont on Sunday morning at the Mercy Fairfield Tennis Courts.

XU won two doubles matches to pick up the first point of the match. At No. 1, Justin Yeager and Rob Simpson played together for the second consecutive match and defeated Belmont’s Matt Fitzpatrick and Michael Moretti in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (4).

In third doubles, Kevin Gaughan and Rustin Reys recorded an 8-6 win over Alex Gillott and David Wright. Gaughan and Reys improve to 6-6 on the season with today’s victory.

Senior Ryan Potts recorded XU’s lone singles victory on the day at the No. 6 position. Potts cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of the Bruins’ David Wright.

The Musketeers will return to the court on Tuesday for a 1 p.m. match versus the University of Indianapolis at the Mercy Fairfield Tennis Courts.
