March 29, 2007

CINCINNATI - The Xavier men's tennis team continued its winning ways with a 7-0 shutout of Northern Kentucky on Thursday afternoon in Cincinnati. The Musketeers (12-9) have now won seven in a row and play their regular-season finale on Sunday at home versus Valparaiso at 10 a.m. ET.

Xavier won all nine draws on the afternoon over their local rival. Doug Matthews beat Felipe Rossetti 6-0, 6-2 in first singles. Jeremy Miller won in No. 2 singles over Reed Sparks 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. Mike Dieciuc, Brian Schubert, Adam Shaeffer and Brian Quinn each picked up singles wins for Xavier.

In doubles, Ra'ees Ismail and J.T. Torbeck played No. 1 for the first time this season, beating Rossetti and Fritz Dlabik by an 8-3 count. Ismail and Torbeck were given the singles portion off, while Matthews and Miller were idle in doubles.

Head coach Jim Brockhoff is now just a win shy of reaching the 1,000th of his career. The women have two chances this weekend before Sunday's men's match versus Valpo.
