Men's Soccer Nets Late Goal but Falls 3-2 in OT

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Senior forward Toni Skudrzik's goal tied the game with 20-seconds remaining in regulation but Duquesne striker Tom Sochacki netted the golden goal 2:15 into overtime as the Xavier University men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to the Dukes on Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh. With the loss, the Musketeers slip to 6-7-1 on the year and 3-1-1 in Atlantic 10 play. Duquesne improves to 9-4-1, 4-1-0. With the Musketeers trailing 2-1 late in the second half, Skudrzik notched an unassisted goal at 89:40. The goal was Skudrzik's fourth in the last four games. The Indianapolis, Ind. native has registered nine points in those four games. The DU game-winner came at 92:15 when Sochacki recorded his second goal of the game on an assist from Noah Salsi. Senior net-minder Liam Curran made four saves for Xavier while Zach Varga stopped five shots for Duquesne. The Musketeers out-shot the 2005 A-10 Regular Season Co-Champs by an 18-16 mark while shots on goal were even at seven. XU out-shot Duquesne 12-6 in the second half in an effort to net the equalizer. Duquesne led 2-0 after Sochacki's first goal at the 29:36 mark but senior midfielder Matt Kmetz converted on a penalty kick at 35:13 to get XU within striking distance. Xavier continues on its nomadic stretch when it travels to La Salle on Friday, October 20. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
