Sues Named To A-10 Baseball All-Tournament Team
RICHMOND, Va. - Senior righthanded pitcher Jarret Sues was named to the Atlantic 10 Baseball All-Tournament Team on Saturday at the University of Richmond. Sues was named to the 12-member team at the end of the A-10 Conference Championship Series, which was won by Richmond over Massachusetts two games to none at UR's Pitt Field. Sues, a relief pitcher from Middletown, N.J., threw 1.1 scoreless innings of relief in the Musketeers first game of the Tournament and allowed just one baserunner. He earned the win as Xavier scored three runs in the ninth for a 6-3 victory over Duquesne. Then the following day, he entered in the second inning against nationally ranked Richmond and outdueled two-time A-10 Pitcher of the Year and Golden Spikes Award Finalist Tim Stauffer for his second win in as many days, 2-1. Against the Spiders, Sues allowed just one unearned run while scattering seven hits, faning five and walking none. Sues finished the A-10 Tournament after throwing the most innings without surrendering an earned run and was just one win shy of the Tourney record. Sues is the second XU pitcher in as many seasons to be named to the A-10 All-Tournament Team. In 2002, Adam Jahnsen was honored after throwing just the second one-hit shutout in Tourney history against Dayton. Xavier ended the 2003 season with a 25-26-2 overall record and a 13-8 mark in Atlantic 10 competition, which was good for third place in the West Division. The Musketeers also qualified for the A-10 postseason for the fourth time in school history and the second consecutive year.
