Musketeers Improve On Record Setting Morning
Men in Sixth and Women in Eighth After First Day
BUFFALO, N.Y. ---After the first day of Atlantic 10 Swimming Championships, the Xavier men are in sixth place with a score of 86 while the women are in eighth place with a total of 57. The St. Bonaventure men lead the way with a total of 221 while Richmond leads the way on the women's side with a total of 168.5. Freshman Matt Young (Mt. Washington, Ky./St. Xavier H.S.) broke the XU school record in the 200 IM with a mark of 1:54.35 in the morning session and then went on to better the record in the evening with a time 1:53.90. Young's time was good enough for a fourth place finish as the Minutemen took the top three spots in the 200 IM.
Angie Hinrichs (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley H.S.) had the fifth best time in the preliminaries of her 200 IM while setting a new school record with a time of 2:09.29. Hinrichs finished sixth in the finals of the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.65.
The women's 400 Medley Relay team of Hinrichs, Molly Moeller (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.), Danielle Miller (Middletown, Ohio/Lakota East H.S.) and Janet Heil (Ft. Mitchell, Ky./Notre Dame Acad.) improved on the school record time as they finished sixth with a time of 3:58.15.
The Musketeers return to the pool tomorrow morning for the preliminaries of day two of the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships.
