School Records Fall at A-10 Championships
Buffalo, N.Y. - After the first full day of competition at the 2003 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships, the Xavier men's swim team is in seventh place with 78 points while the women are in ninth with 56 points.
Day one was highlighted by the performance of the women's 400 Medley Relay of Molly Moeller (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead), Sarah Blush (Brighton, Mich./Brighton), Janet Heil (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Notre Dame Academy), and Angie Hinrichs (Cincinnati/McAuley). The group broke their own school record with a time of 3:58.02 in the preliminaries and then bested that performance this evening as they shattered the record with a time of 3:56.37. The time of 3:56.37 earned Xavier a sixth place finish in the 400 MR.
In the women's 200 IM, Hinrichs and Becky Faust (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) finished 10th (2:09.85) and 12th (2:10.84) respectively for the Musketeers.
On the men's side, the 400 Medley Relay of John Janszen (Cincinnati/St. Xavier), Matt Young (Mt. Washington, Ky./St. Xavier), David Janszen (Cincinnati/St. Xavier), and Kyle Hawley (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton North) also broke the school record with a time of 3:29.56 on their way to a fifth place finish.
In addition, freshman Kyle Hawley gave the Musketeers a great individual performance in the 500 Freestyle as he broke his own school record with a time of 4:39.20 and finished 10th.
In the men's 200 IM, Matt Young finished sixth with a time of 1:54.08. Freshman Matt Normile (St. Louis, Mo./DeSmet Jesuit) came in 13th in the 500 Freestyle (4:46.01).
The men's 200 Freestyle Relay of Dan Milheim (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville), Hawley, John Krieger (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine), and David Janszen finished sixth with a season best time of 1:26.79.
Xavier will get back to action tomorrow morning at 10:30 for the preliminaries of day two of the 2003 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships at the Flickinger Aquatic Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
