DETROIT - The Wayne State women's tennis team snapped its three-match slide defeating Lake Superior State, 6-3, at the WSU Tennis Courts. The Warriors improve to 2-3 (2-3 GLIAC) while LSSU drops to 0-6 (0-6 GLIAC).
For the time in three matches, WSU jumped out to an early led taking two of three doubles matches. The No. 1 tandem of freshmen Sharon Gill (Windsor, Ont./Academie Ste. In singles competition, Lake Superior responded with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots but it would not be enough as WSU rolled with four consecutive victories at the No. 3 through No. 6 positions to seal the victory. At the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, freshman Deby Correa (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Padre Eustaquio) easily dispatched Anais Molina 6-0, 6-1 while junior Sargam Bhatt (Canton, Mich.-Taylor Truman) downed Rachel Hall 6-1, 6-2.
The Warriors continue conference play with a 10 a.m. home dual match against Michigan Tech Saturday, Oct. 6.
