DETROIT - The 25th-ranked Wayne State University softball team (33-13 overall, 12-5 GLIAC) recorded a 3-0 triumph in the first game of a Saturday GLIAC twinbill over visiting Findlay (8-38 overall, 2-15 GLIAC) at the WSU Softball Stadium.
Warrior junior pitcher Molly Yetman (Cambridge, Ont.) scattered two hits in recording her 13th shutout of the season and improving her record to 19-2. She increased her school record strikeout total to 217 (she broke Amy Thiede's 2000 mark of 205 yesterday).
WSU scored once in the bottom of the second as Robyn Haig (Waterloo, Ont.) drew a leadoff walk on a 3-2 pitch. Lisa Seymour's (Davison, Mich.) sacrifice bunt moved Haig to second, while a Stephanie LeClair (Kitchener, Ont.) groundout advanced Haig to third. Amanda Van't Wout (Guelph, Ont.) then delivered a two-out single between shortstop and third base to score Haig.
Wayne State added two runs in the bottom of the fifth to complete the scoring. Van't Wout had a leadoff single to left and moved to second on a wild pitch. Nicole Abel's (Kitchener, Ont.) sacrifice bunt advanced Van't Wout to third. Following a groundout, senior catcher Sarah Kish (St. Catharines, Ont.) blooped a double into left center scoring Van't Wout. Sarah Berry (Acton, Ont.) then followed with an RBI single through the left side scoring Kish.
