Wayne State University head football coach Paul Winters announced the signing of Neil Mitchell (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) to a National Letter of Intent. Mitchell is a 6-0, 190-pound cornerback/tailback.

"We are very excited to sign another quality student-athlete in Neil Mitchell from Toledo Central Catholic," said Winters. "Neil brings speed and versatility to the team as he can play both tailback and cornerback. Competition makes everyone better and Neil will increase the competition for playing time."

Mitchell earned three letters in football for coach Greg Dempsey and the Fighting Irish ... rushed for over 800 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior helping TCC to a 14-1 record and the Ohio Division II state title, the first state title in school history ... he made 82 tackles, including 30 solo, with four interceptions this past fall ... in the state semifinal win over Dayton Carroll, he rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries ... had a 38-yard reception in the state title game setting up a TCC touchdown ... contributed 305 rushing yards on 68 playoff carries, including four TDs ... after earning Second Team All-City League honors in 2004, he was selected First Team All-City as a defensive back in 2005 ... he earned Toledo Blade honorable mention all-district accolades in 2005 ... rushed for 583 yards and seven touchdowns helping TCC to an 8-2 mark in 2004 ... Mitchell also participated on the TCC track team in the long jump (20'7"), 4 x 200m relay and 200m ... born April 8, 1988 ... plans to major in sports medicine ... son of Dawn Mitchell-Harrison.
