Men's Fencing Inks Student-Athlete For 2004-05

DETROIT - Jerzy Radz, the head coach of the Wayne State University fencing program, announced today the signing of Adam Angert (Portland, Ore.) to a National Letter of Intent.

Angert competed for the Oregon Fencing Alliance and coaches Ed Korfanty and Adam Skarbonkiewicz. He placed 18th at the Division I national championship in Atlanta this past April and finished 16th in the sabre at the junior olympics in Cleveland in February. Angert was seventh at the NAC junior competition in San Jose, Calif. in December 2003 and placed 12th at the NAC junior competition in San Diego in January 2003. He also competed at the Junior Men's Sabre World Cup in Goeppingen, Germany, in January 2003. The son of Vaun Angert and Teddy Angert, he is undecided on his academic major.

WSU returns two sabre competitors in senior Michael Dudzik and sophomore Bobby Smith. Smith placed 21st at the 2004 NCAA Championship.
