GANNON/MERCYHURST GAME STORYLINES

The Wayne State University men's basketball team will carry a two-game winning streak into this weekend's GLIAC openers against Gannon (Thursday) and Mercyhurst (Saturday).

The Warriors offense has found its rhythm scoring over 70 points in both victories while allowing an average of 65 points. WSU did not hold any of its first three opponents under 65 points.

Gannon suffered its first loss of the season on Monday (67-60 at Edinboro), while Mercyhurst won 87-72 at Ohio Valley on Saturday.

ON THE BENCH

Wayne State's David Greer is in his sixth season at the helm of the Warrior basketball program with a 80-67 mark. His overall seven-year coaching mark stands at 97-79, which includes one season at Tiffin (1986-87).

John T. Reilly is in his second year at Gannon after compiling a 12-15 mark in his first season.

Mercyhurst's Gary Manchel has a 46-41 record in his fourth year with the Lakers.

THROUGHOUT THE YEARS

Gannon leads 14-12 after the teams split a year ago with each squad winning on its home court. WSU still leads MC 13-9 despite dropping both games last season by a combined five points (65-61 in Erie and 62-61 in Detroit).

IN THE POLLS

The Warriors were selected fourth in the GLIAC South Division in the preseason coaches poll. The Golden Knights were picked sixth and Mercyhurst was tabbed for third.
