April 18, 2007
Former Wayne State University women's basketball player Bethany Mesko (Traverse City, Mich./Central) and former softball standout Meghan Misiak (Livonia, Mich./Churchill) were inducted into the David Mackenzie Honor Society last evening.
Mesko (pictured left) was voted to the 2006-07 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Third Team. She started 49 games in her Warrior career scoring 416 points and grabbing 313 rebounds. An accounting major, she earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.5+) accolades all seven semesters, including five perfect 4.0 semesters.
Misiak was a three-time All-GLIAC selection as a pitcher and also a three-time Academic All-GLIAC honoree. She concluded her career first in appearances (122) and starts (102) by any WSU pitcher; second in complete games (78), wins (64), saves (6) and strikeouts (444), third in innings (653.1) and eighth in winning percentage (.610). Her 21 shutouts are the most of anyone in the last 12 years.
The David Mackenzie Honor Society was founded in 1981 through a merger of Karyatides, the former women's honor society (conceived in 1925 and founded April 16, 1931), and the Mackenzie Honor Society (organized in 1926).
The Society honors outstanding students and fosters continued interest in the growth and development of its Alma Mater, Wayne State University.
Each year the Society elects to membership outstanding students who unselfish service on behalf of the University has materially contributed to its increasing institutional greatness.
Mesko, Misiak and former mascot Noah Morgan, were three of the 16 inductees on April 17, 2007.

Former swimmer David Lutz was a 2006 inductee, while former swimmer Jason Jweda and women's hockey player Kim Spaulding were 2005 inductees.
Other recent student-athletes to be honored were:
2004 - Chris Hilton (baseball), Kurt Hunsanger (football), and Charles Stamboulian (men's cross country)
2003 - Katie Brogan (volleyball) and Ty Stevenson (baseball)
2002 - Rachel Koskodan (women's tennis) and Marzena Radzio (women's tennis)
In fact, two WSU athletic Hall of Fame inductees - Newman H. Ertell and Russell Lightbody - were inductees in the inaugural class of 1925.
