Wyoming Tennis Team Defeats Northern Colorado 9-0 In Season Opener
Sept. 17, 2000 LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming women's tennis team defeated Northern Colorado 9-0 Sunday at the UW Tennis Courts in Laramie. The Cowgirls won all six singles matches and all three doubles matches on their way to the victory. With the victory, Wyoming opens its season 1-0. The closest matches of the day were the number one and number two singles contests. The number one player for Wyoming is freshman Jenny Bowman, and she got her collegiate career off to a good start with a 6-4, 7-5 victory. Paulina del Monte was the number two player for UW, and she won 6-4, 6-4. "We looked good with all five of our freshman in either singles or doubles," said Wyoming head coach Pam Davis. "They are all experienced enough from summer tournaments and from playing six challenge matches in the last two weeks that they didn't have a problem closing out the few close matches we had. "We're still experimenting with the lineup and the doubles teams," said Davis. "We'll make some changes next weekend at the University of Colorado Invitational to see what works best." Wyoming will compete in Boulder, Colo., Sept. 22-24.
