Cowgirl Tennis Closes Out Regular Season with Victory
April 17, 2005
LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team closed out the regular season on a high note as they swept the Northern Colorado Bears, 7-0. The Cowgirls improve to 9-11 overall, while the Bears drop to 5-10 overall.
In doubles play, the Cowgirls earned the point by winning all three matches. The number one team of Patricia Chien and Karolina Rowinski earned an 8-3 win over Meredith Krystofik and Karen Groll. Corina Lazar and Amy Senko ousted Renee Nuccio and Carmen Vasos 8-1, at the No. 2 spot, while the team of Andrea House and Gwen Moser closed things out with an 8-4 win against Anna Alexander and Kellie Crail.
Wyoming also took over in singles play as they swept all six matches led by Patricia Chien who had a two set win, 7-6 (3), 6-3, over Karen Groll. Freshman Corina Lazar came back after falling in a first set tiebreaker to earn the three set win, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 10-8, against Meredith Krystofik as did Kim Romero, 3-6, 6-4, 10-4, over Kellie Crail at the number five spot. Karolina Rowinski had an easy time with Renee Nuccio, 6-2, 6-3, along with Andrea House over Carmen Vasos, 6-4, 6-1. Amy Senko rounded out singles play as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Erin Cable.
"This was a great way to close out the regular season with a victory," said head coach Pam Wildt. "We had a couple of tough matches that we had to pull out, but I thought this was a nice confidence builder as we head in to the Mountain West Conference Championships. Everybody did a nice job, stepped it up and closed out the task at hand."
The Cowgirls will be off for a week as they prepare for the MWC Championships, Thursday through Saturday, April 28-30, in San Diego, Calif.
