Ft. Collins, Colo. - The Wyoming tennis team opened up the Mountain West Conference season with a 5-2 loss against the Colorado State Rams on Saturday night at the Miramont Sport Center in Ft. Collins.

The Rams opened up the match by winning the doubles point by taking two of three matches. Dasha Zhurin and Emily Kirchem teamed up to win 8-3 over Jen Hancock and Yuliani Santi at No. 1 doubles, while Tatyana Ugorich and Alexandra Paganetti defeated Andrea House and Gwen Moser, 8-4, at the No. 3 doubles spot. The only Cowgirl doubles team to take a match was the team of Karolina Rowinski and Patricia Chien with an 8-3 win over Carla Pallares and Jasmin Singh.

In singles action, Colorado State would take four of six matches in order to win the match. The only victories by the Cowgirls came from Patricia Chien with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Dasha Zhurin at the No. 1 position, and a two set win, 6-1, 7-5, by Karolina Rowinski over Charity Malone. Senior Yuliani Santi fell 6-1, 6-1 against Emily Kirchem as did Jennifer Hancock in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 6-0, against Carla Pallares. At the No. 5 spot, freshman Amy Senko lost a tough three set match, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, to Tatyana Ugorich. The Rams wrapped up the match as Alexandra Pagnetti earned a 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (15) win over freshman Andrea House.

The Cowgirls will return to MWC action next week against New Mexico on Saturday afternoon and the Air Force Academy on Sunday afternoon. Both matches will be played in Albuquerque, N.M.
