LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming junior Alison McGuire shot a final round score of 76 on Tuesday at the Inland Empire Intercollegiate, finishing the two-day tournament in a tie for fifth place with a three-round total score of 230, 14-over par. McGuire shot back-to-back rounds of 77 on the first day of competition on Monday.

University of Portland's Sarah Walter won the tournament with a three round total of 214, two-under par. She was the only golfer in the field of 31 to shot under par. Eastern Washington's Jeanie Bagnell finished three strokes out of first shooting a 217, placing her in second.

Host school Eastern Washington won the team title over second place Gonzaga by 21 strokes -- 910 to 931. Wyoming placed fifth with a total score of 962, 12 strokes behind fourth place Montana (950).

"Despite where we placed I thought the team played very well," said UW women's golf coach Jill Rettinger. We had a few outstanding performances led by Alison (McGuire) who had a great tournament. She hit the ball well and made some nice shots. Katherine (Crowley) had a great tournament as well. She and Alison both finished with averages under 80 which was a positive for us. All in all it was a good tournament and a good warm-up for next weekend."

Crowley was the next highest Cowgirl finisher behind McGuire, placing in a tie for 14th with a total score of 239. Junior Kim Nissen shot a final round score of 79 helping her finish in a tie for 20th with a total score of 245. Sophomore Ashley Cariveau finished in 23rd with a three round total of 250, two strokes ahead of freshman Shala Hanson who placed in a tie for 24th with a total score of 252.

The Inland Empire Intercollegiate was played at the Downriver Golf Course in Spokane, Wash. The course measured 5,881 yards and played to a par of 72.

The Cowgirls will return to the links April 8-9 at the Brigham Young Dixie Classic in St. George, Utah.
