UW Tied for Ninth After First Round of the Montana State Bobcat Desert Classic

LARAMIE, Wyo. -
University of Wyoming freshman Bailey Adcock fired an opening round 79 on Monday at the Montana State Bobcat Desert Classic, placing her in a tie for 19th place in the field of 68 women's golfers. Playing in its second tournament of the 2003 spring season, the Cowgirl squad is tied for ninth place in the 11-team field.
The Bobcat Desert Classic is being played at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz. The event is a 36-hole tournament, with the final round set to tee off Tuesday morning, March 4.
"Obviously, it is always an adjustment coming out of the winter into our early tournaments," said UW women's golf coach Jill Rettinger. "We had several players shoot a series of good holes, but we didn't put together the kind of consistent play throughout the round that we are looking for as a team.
"Bailey (Adcock) had a nice round of 79. She played better as the round went on, shooting a 43 on the front nine and closing with an even-par 36 on the back nine.
"It usually takes awhile for the girls to get their short games in shape, after practicing inside for much of the winter. That is the part of our game that suffered today. But we did have some bright spots, and I know the girls are looking forward to coming out tomorrow and posting a low round."
The Palm Valley Golf Club course measures 6,050 yards and plays to a par of 72.
Following completion of the Bobcat Desert Classic on Tuesday, the Cowgirls' next tournament of the spring will be the Sam Houston State Spring Classic on March 10-11, 2003, in Huntsville, Texas.
