LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming men's golf team is beginning a new tradition on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 15-16 when they host the First Annual Wyoming Cowboy Classic. The tournament will be played at the Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

This year's tournament will be played at the North Course at Talking Stick. The Talking Stick North Course was recently named the Top Public Course in the state of Arizona by Golfweek magazine. The North Course measures 7,133 yards and plays to a par of 70.

Teams competing in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic will include: Air Force, Arizona, Arizona State, Drake, Grand Canyon, Loyola (Md.), Oklahoma City, San Diego State, Texas-Arlington, Weber State and Wyoming.

The format for the tournament will be 54-holes, with the first two rounds being played on Tuesday, April 15. The final 18-hole round will be played on Wednesday, April 16. Each day will begin with a shotgun start. Tee times for both days will begin at 7:30 a.m, Pacific time.

A practice round for all teams will be held Monday, April 14 beginning at noon.

The Talking Stick Golf Club was designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. It is located in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community at 9998 East Indian Bend Road in Scottsdale.

Talking Stick opened in January of 1998. Since its opening, it has hosted the PGA Tour Qualifying School in 1998 and '99, and the USGA Sectional Qualifier in '98 and 2002.
