Freshman Gabe Maier, who is at even-par after two rounds, was a bright spot on Monday for the Wyoming Cowboy golfers at the Nevada Wolf Pack Classic in Reno.

Fueled by nine birdies on the day, Maier carded scores of 71 (-1) and 73 (+1). He is tied for 18th place out of 100 individuals after 36 holes.

As a team the Cowboys are in 18th place of 19 teams, after a first round of 306 (+18), followed by a second round score of 303 (+15). UW's total of 609 (+33) is two strokes back of Northern Colorado and four in back of Louisiana-Monroe.

"I feel good about the way Gabe (Maier) played, but as a whole we got frustrated today and that was reflected in our scores," said Cowboy head coach Joe Jensen. "The guys lost confidence and that's the rub of playing with four freshmen. It's going to be a bit of a roller coaster from event to event. We're a talented group, but today had a hard time being patient and had a disappointing day."

On Tuesday morning, one round of 18 holes at the Wolf Run Golf Club (7,100 yards, par 72) will determine the final results. Wyoming will be paired with Northern Colorado, Weber State and a group of individual players from Nevada.

Arizona leads defending champion Iowa State in the team competition by four strokes. The Wildcats totaled 565 (-11), while the Cyclones are at 569.

ISU's Joe Cermak is atop the individual leaderboard at 139 (-5), while three golfers are one stroke back at 140.
