Lady Buff Riders Enter Second Half Of 2004-2005 Season On Road



Senior Mallory Vestal enters the first competition for the Equestrian team after two months looking to continue her trend of first place finishes.

The West Texas A&M University women's equestrian Hunter team begins the second half of the 2004-2005 equestrian season with its first competition since December 4 & 5, 2004, as they travel back to Stillwater, Okla for the weekend competition. Oklahoma State University will host the two shows, one Saturday and one Sunday, both shows beginning at 8 a.m.

Competing at the Animal Science Center at Stillwater are 14 schools within the Zone VII - Region 2 of Oklahoma and Texas, besides WTAMU: Texas A&M University, Oklahoma State University, Southern Methodist University, Texas Tech University, North Central Texas College, Texas State University, Southern Nazarene University, Stephen F. Austin University, Sol Ross State College, Trinty University, Louisiana State, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and possibly University of Texas.

Head coach Rebekah Bachman expects freshman Brittney Unrien to qualify for Regionals, which WTAMU will host the first weekend in April. Seniors Ciearra Vinson, Lena Cottle and Mallory Vestal should also turn in some good performances.

The last competition (Dec. 4 & 5) of the year found the WTAMU Lady Buff Riders finishing second and fifth against more than 10 teams from within the Zone VII- Region 2 at Oklahoma State University. Seniors Tayla Dunn (reining), Kelly Carr (novice horsemanship) and Trina Schwertner (novice horsemanship) along with Vestal (advanced horsemanship) all took top honors at the competition.

The equestrian team will play host February 19 at the WTAMU Horse Center in Canyon. And then compete solely against the University of South Carolina February 20 in Canyon.
