Lady Buff Riders Finish 2nd And 5th In Last Show Before Two Month Hiatus



Senior Tayla Dunn finished the weekend with a first and third placing in the reining categories at the Oklahoma State University Shows, Dec. 4 & 5.

The West Texas A&M University women's equestrian Western team placed second on Saturday (Show I) and fifth on Sunday (Show II) Dec. 4 & 5 in Stillwater, Okla. at host Oklahoma State University. Texas A&M University and host OSU split the top spot on Saturday with 28 points. The Aggies continued the sweep on day two finishing with 27 points.

On the first day of competition, the Lady Buff Riders earned 22 points in their first second place finish of the season. Seniors Tayla Dunn and Mallory Vestal took top honors in Show I, Dunn in the reining category, and fourth in open horsemanship and Vestal in advanced horsemanship. Courtney Douglas also finished in the first spot in the novice horsemanship ride. Second place finishes for WTAMU were freshman Clare Dunn in open horsemanship, Krissy Mailman in advanced horsemanship, senior Marcie Jones in novice horsemanship and junior Ashley Greer in intermediate horsemanship. Senior Ciearra Vinson placed third in the open horsemanship, sophomores Laura Sleutel in intermediate horsemanship and Stephanie James in beginner horsemanship.

On Sunday, the second day of competition, WTAMU placed fifth with 14 points and only two first place finishes. Seniors Trina Schwertner and Kelly Carr shared the top spot in the novice horsemanship show.

Vestal, Sleutel, and Clare Dunn finished second in their respected rides. Tayla Dunn, Cara Scogin and freshman Brittney Unrein rounded out the top three spots with a third place finish.

The Western team heads back into competition for their third show March 5 & 6 at Lubbock, Texas for the Texas Tech Show.

The Hunter team is back into their second half of the season on February 5, 2005 at Stillwater, Okla. for their fourth show.
