Lady Buffs To Face Emporia State In South Central Regionals

The 22nd-ranked West Texas A&M University women's basketball team drew the No. 6 seed and will face the No. 3 seed, sixth-ranked Emporia State University in the first round of the NCAA-II South Central Regional Tournament announced Sunday by the NCAA. The eight-team Regional Tournament will be hosted by top-seeded and second-ranked Drury University at Springfield, Mo. March 12-15.
WTAMU is 24-5 after losing to 18th-ranked Angelo State University in the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament Friday night. ESU is 24-4 after losing to 20th-ranked Northwest Missouri State University in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Tournament Championship game Sunday at Kansas City, Mo. The Lady Hornets are coached by Brandon Schneider, the son of WTAMU head coach Bob Schneider.
Angelo State (26-4) received the second seed and will face Northeastern State University (23-7) in a rematch of Saturday's LSC Championship game. Other pairings are top-seeded Drury (31-1), out of the Heartland Conference taking on eighth-seeded Missouri Western State College (21-8) from the MIAA, and No. 20, fourth-seeded Northwest Missouri (24-6) against fellow MIAA opponent, fifth-seeded and 11th-ranked Washburn University (25-4).

WTAMU met Emporia State back on Nov. 22 as part of ESU's Candle Wood Suites Classic, with ESU edging the Lady Buffs, 58-57. WTAMU leads the all-time series, 4-3, but ESU has won the last three meetings, with the last two under Brandon Schneider.
