WTAMU Finish Sixth At Mustang Intercollegiate Tournament



Sophomore Geoff Phemister led all WTAMU golfers, finishing in a tie for 19th place

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Despite having all five players finish in the top 40, the West Texas A&M men's golf team took the sixth spot at the Mustang Intercollegiate Tournament, hosted by Western New Mexico University.

The Buffs shaved off strokes in each round, going from a 310 total in round one, to 309 in the second round and wrapping the weekend with a 298 card in the final round for a complete score of 917. The University of New Mexico took home the team trophy with a card of 885.

Sophomore Geoff Phemister (80-72-76 = 228) led all WTAMU golfers, finishing in a tie for 19th place. Senior Kent Neal (76-78-76 = 230) and junior Jon Musser (76-84-72 = 232) ended the weekend in 23rd and 28th place respectively. Freshman Roy Holdeman (79-81-74 = 234) placed in a tie for 35th, while senior Spud Dillingham (79-78-80 = 237) rounds out the squad tied for the 40th spot.

The Buffs will head to Edmond, Okla. to play at Kickingbird Golf Club in a tournament hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma during the weekend of March 25-27.
