WTAMU Baseball Splits Twinbill With Greyhounds

The West Texas A&M University baseball team split a doubleheader with Eastern New Mexico this afternoon, dropping the first game, 14-3 and taking the second, 3-2. The Buffs are now 13-33 overall and 2-10 in LSC South division play.

Freshman third baseman Brian Schupp was 3-4 in the first game with three singles while senior first baseman Matt Rehkopf and freshman second baseman Coby Corley, who were both 2-4 at the plate, added a home run apiece to pick up one and two RBI respectively. Sophomore right fielder Ryan Reneau was 2-3 in the game. Senior starter Kenny Baldwin picked up his third loss of the year, throwing 5.1 innings and giving up seven runs on 11 hits.

The afternoon's second game was highlighted by a bloop single over the head of Greyhounds second baseman Bryan Moore by catcher Tyler Glynn that scored Rehkopf from third for the Buffs' third run of the game. The run came in the bottom of the sixth inning and though ENMU managed to advance a runner to third in the top of the seventh inning, sophomore lefthander James Sweatman recorded the final out without allowing another run en route to his second complete game of the season, giving up just two runs on five hits. Reneau continued his hot hitting, going 2-3 for the Buffs in the second game, while Rekopf was 1-1 with a RBI and freshman designated hitter Brandon Perrotta added the WTAMU's other RBI, going 1-3 at the plate.

The Buffs complete their home games with a single nine inning game against non-conference opponents Wayland Baptist on Tuesday, Apr. 19 at 3 p.m. WTAMU will wrap up their season with a four game series at Angelo State, followed by a four game series at Tarleton State. The Angelo State series will take place on Friday, Apr. 22 and Saturday, Apr. 23 with Friday's doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. and Saturday's twinbill at Noon. Against Tarleton State, the Buffs will play a twinbill at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 7 and will finish their season with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday, May 8.
