Buffs Drop First Game To Javelinas

KINGSVILLE, Texas - The West Texas A&M University baseball team got on the board first, but then was overtaken by No. 28 Texas A&M University-Kingsville, and dropped the first of the three-game Lone Star Conference South division series, 9-2, Friday at TAMU-K's Nolan Ryan Field.
WTAMU drew first blood, scoring in the top of the first, as senior 3B Nick Williams singled to center to drive in senior LF Dan Moody, who led off the game by reaching on an error.
However, TAMU-K would rally back, hanging a pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the second and third innings, to take a 4-1 lead.
The Buffs closed to 4-2 in the top of the fifth on junior DH Jeff Cramer's solo shot to left field.
The Javelinas plated two more runs in the home half of the fifth and hung three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final scoring.
WTAMU threatened in the top of the seventh, loading the bases with one out, but couldn't plate a run.
Williams and freshman 1B Trey Howell both went 2-4 to lead the Buffs' offense.
The Buffs drop to 11-23 overall, 5-9 in LSC South play entering Friday's nightcap with the Javelinas, who improved to 20-14 overall and 10-3 in the LSC South, remaining atop the division standings.
