Buff Baseball Win Streak Snapped, But Split Saved With Savage Storm Saturday



Senior 1B Drew Conley was 2-3 with four RBI and two runs scored, belting a solo home run and a three-run double to lead WTAMU to a 5-1 win over Southeastern Oklahoma in game two Saturday. The Buffs had their five-game win streak snapped with a 3-0 loss in the first game of the day.

DURANT, Okla. -- The West Texas A&M University baseball team's five-game win streak was snapped with a 3-0 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State University, but the Buffs bounced back to take game two, 5-1, Saturday afternoon in a Lone Star Conference crossover series at Durant, Okla., at SOSU's Ballpark in Durant.

WTAMU has now won 10 of the last 13, and are now 14-15 overall. SOSU is 10-15.

SOSU scored two runs in the home half of the fourth and the Savage Storm tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth, as WTAMU only managed three hits of SOSU pitching, with junior SS Gabe Gonzales, sophomore DH Brady Ribinskas and sophomore OF Justin Graham garnered hits.

Junior lefty Jessie Rodriguez took the loss on the mound, falling to 2-5 overall, going all six innings, spraying seven hits while striking out six.

In game two, the Buffs belted out nine hits, paced by senior 1B Drew Conley going 2-3 with four RBI and two runs scored, socking a solo shot to left in the second, and then rapping a three-run double in the sixth.

Gonzales was 2-3 with a run scored, while junior 2B Matt Ray was 2-3.

Sophomore righty Cody Sessions got the win, evening his ledger at 3-3, going six innings, yielding eight hits while striking out three and walking one.

After Sessions gave up two hits to SOSU to start the seventh, senior righthander Patrick Wallis came on in relief, closing the door on the Savage Storm's rally with two flyouts and a strikeout.

The teams return to the diamond on Sunday at 1 p.m. to wrap up the four-game series, WTAMU's final crossover series of the season.

The Buffs open LSC South action, hosting Texas A&M University-Kingsville in a four-game series, Friday and Saturday, March 31 and April 1, at Potter County Memorial Stadium.
